Arcana finder: look up any energy from 1 to 22

Please read this first: The Destiny Matrix is a symbolic self-reflection tool, not a prediction. Nothing here is medical, financial, or relationship advice, and no result can tell you what will happen or what you should do. Use it to think, not to decide for you.

You have a number from your chart, maybe a 7 at one corner, a 19 at the centre, or a 22 that keeps showing up, and you want to know what it means without wading through a whole book. That is what this finder is for. Type a number from 1 to 22, and you get its name and its meaning in plain terms, so you can take that meaning back to your chart and ask how it fits your life.

Use the tool above when you have a chart in front of you, or when you are just curious about a single energy. Enter one number at a time. If you enter a number outside 1 to 22, the finder will not have a match, because the Destiny Matrix system used here works only inside that range. If you are not sure which number to look up, start with the centre of your chart, often called point E, since that position is talked about as a core theme.

What an arcana, or energy, number is

An arcana is a named theme, borrowed from tarot imagery and used here as a symbol for reflection. Each number from 1 to 22 carries one name and one set of themes. The Magician, for example, is talked about in terms of skill, focus, and making something happen with what you have. The Hermit is talked about in terms of quiet, reflection, and stepping back to think. The names are old, but the use here is simple: a name gives you a handle for a theme, and the theme gives you questions to sit with.

It helps to think of an energy as a lens, not a label. A label says you are this, full stop. A lens says: look at this part of your life through this theme and see what shows up. If you get the Hermit at a position about work, the useful question is not “am I a Hermit?” It is “do I need more quiet thinking time at work, or am I avoiding something by withdrawing?” That shift, from label to question, is what keeps the finder useful instead of limiting.

Energies also repeat across a chart. You might see the same number at two or three positions, and that repetition is worth noticing. If the same theme shows up at the centre and at a corner, it may be pointing to something that runs through several areas of your life. Or it may be a coincidence of the maths. Either way, repetition is a prompt to look closer, not proof of anything.

All 22 energies at a glance

Here is the full list used on this site, in order. Keep this list beside you when you read a chart, so you can translate numbers to names quickly.

1 Magician. 2 High Priestess. 3 Empress. 4 Emperor. 5 Hierophant. 6 Lovers. 7 Chariot. 8 Justice. 9 Hermit. 10 Wheel of Fortune. 11 Strength. 12 Hanged Man. 13 Death. 14 Temperance. 15 Devil. 16 Tower. 17 Star. 18 Moon. 19 Sun. 20 Judgement. 21 World. 22 Fool.

Two names on that list cause the most confusion, so let us clear them up now. Energy 8 is Justice and energy 11 is Strength on this site. Some tarot traditions swap those two, putting Strength at 8 and Justice at 11. If you have seen the swapped version elsewhere, do not assume this site has made a mistake. It is following one tradition consistently, and the swapped version is following another. When you compare readings, check which tradition each one uses for 8 and 11.

The other name to watch is the Fool. On this site, the Fool is 22. In many tarot decks, the Fool is 0. Both refer to the same theme of beginnings, freedom, and stepping into the unknown, but the numbering differs. This site uses 22 because its reduction rule turns a digit-sum of 0 into 22, so 22 is the number that carries the Fool here. If another calculator shows a 0 where this site shows a 22, treat them as the same energy under a different label.

How to use the finder

Start with a number you already have. That number usually comes from a chart position: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, or I. Note the position as well as the number, because the same energy can read differently in different positions. A Sun energy at the centre might prompt questions about your core sense of self. The same Sun energy at a corner about work might prompt questions about visibility, recognition, or joy in what you do. The finder gives you the energy meaning. Your chart position tells you where to apply it.

Read the meaning once, then close the description and ask a concrete question. For the Star, you might ask: where do I actually feel hopeful right now, and what is feeding that hope? For the Tower, you might ask: what structure in my life feels shaky, and what would a honest repair look like? For the Moon, you might ask: what am I unsure about, and what small fact would clear it up? Concrete questions turn a general description into something you can act on, or decide not to act on.

If a meaning does not fit, say so. A finder result that feels wrong is not a failure on your part. It may mean the position matters more than the energy, or that the theme shows up in a subtler way than the description suggests, or simply that this particular prompt is not useful for you right now. Set it aside and try another position. A tool you can disagree with is more honest than a tool that demands agreement.

What the finder does not cover

This finder gives you the meaning of a single energy. It does not give you a full chart reading, and it does not combine energies for you. Combining is where a lot of the interesting reflection happens: how does a Hermit centre sit alongside a Chariot corner, for example? That kind of combination work is for you to do, with your own knowledge of your life, or with a fuller guide that walks through positions one by one.

The fuller positive and negative meanings for each energy, the parts often called the plus and minus sides, live on the 22 energies page. This finder is the quick lookup. That page is the deeper read. If a finder result sparks your interest, go to the energies page for the fuller version, and read both sides with the same sceptical eye. A balanced reading shows both the helpful and the difficult sides of a theme. A reading that only flatters is not balanced.

The finder also does not predict. If you look up the Wheel of Fortune and read about change, that does not mean change is coming next week. If you look up Death and read about endings, that does not mean something will end. These are themes for reflection, and the timing, if any, is yours to judge from real life, not from a number.

A quick way to practise

Pick three numbers: your centre, one corner, and one turned-square position. Look each one up, write one sentence for each about where that theme shows up in your week, and then write one sentence about where it does not show up. That second sentence matters. It stops you from stretching a theme to fit everything, which is the easiest trap with any symbolic system. A theme that fits everywhere explains nothing.

Then leave it for a few days and come back. Do the three sentences still feel true? Did anything shift? That small experiment tells you more about whether the finder is useful for you than any amount of reading about the system in the abstract. Usefulness is proven in your own week, not in a description.

Questions people ask

What number do I type into the arcana finder?

Type any whole number from 1 to 22. That number usually comes from a position on your Destiny Matrix chart, such as point A, point E, or one of the turned-square points. The finder returns the name and meaning for that energy, so you can apply it to the position it came from.

Why is the Fool 22 here instead of 0?

In many tarot decks the Fool is numbered 0, but this site numbers it as 22, following its reduction rule that turns a digit-sum of 0 into 22. Both labels refer to the same theme of beginnings and stepping into the unknown. If another calculator shows 0, treat it as the same Fool energy.

Is energy 8 Justice or Strength?

On this site, energy 8 is Justice and energy 11 is Strength. Some tarot traditions swap those two, so you may see Strength at 8 elsewhere. That is a tradition difference, not a mistake in your chart. When comparing readings, check which tradition each source uses for 8 and 11.

Does the same energy mean the same thing in every position?

The core theme stays the same, but how you apply it changes with the position. A Sun energy at the centre prompts questions about your core sense of self, while the same energy at a work position prompts questions about visibility or joy at work. Note both the number and the position when you look something up.

Where are the full positive and negative meanings?

The fuller plus and minus meanings for each energy live on the 22 energies page. This finder is a quick lookup for a single energy. If a result interests you, read the fuller version there, and read both sides, since a balanced view shows the helpful and the difficult parts of a theme.

Can the finder predict what will happen to me?

No. The finder gives themes for reflection, not predictions. A result about change, endings, or new beginnings does not mean an event is coming, and it should never be used to make a medical, financial, or relationship decision. Use it to think, and base decisions on facts and qualified advice.
